Step 1: Navigate to the Curriculum Tab

  1. From the left-hand side menu, open the Learning Module.

  2. At the top of the Learning Module screen, click Setup.

  3. Within Setup, select the Curriculum tab.

Step 2: Review the Preloaded Curriculum Structure

Under Curriculums, you will see a preloaded standardized ECE curriculum that you can use, edit, or delete.

Curriculum Hierarchy:

  • Curriculum

  • Domain (e.g., Language and Literacy Development)

    • Focus Areas within each domain (e.g., Expressive and Receptive Communication, Reading and Writing Readiness)

    • Outcomes under each focus area

Expand the existing curriculum to see its structure.

Key usage notes:

  • Outcomes are used on progress reports. Staff complete progress reports that are tied to a specific curriculum and its outcomes, and can use rubrics to grade students accordingly.

  • Focus areas are used as tags in journal entries and lessons.

  • For example, if an activity is designed for Reading and Writing Readiness, staff can tag that focus area in the activity journal or associated lesson.

    • These tagged entries appear in reports within the Progress Reports, which parents can access through the Learning Module.

Step 3: Customize Domains, Focus Areas, and Outcomes

Curriculums are fully customizable:

  • Use the Edit icon to modify:

  • Domains

    • Focus areas

    • Outcomes

  • Use Add New Learning Outcome or Add New Focus Area (and similar options) to expand the curriculum.

  • Use the Remove button to delete items you no longer need.

You can tailor the preloaded curriculum to match your own framework.

Step 4: Remove the Existing Curriculum and Add a New One

If you do not wish to use or edit the existing curriculum:

  1. Use the Delete option to remove the preloaded curriculum entirely.

  2. Click the plus (+) sign to add a new curriculum.

This opens a window where you can choose how to add a curriculum.

Step 5: Choose Between Pre-Made or Custom Curriculum

In the curriculum selection window, you have two options:

  • Select from pre-made curriculums (recommended if you want to start from an existing framework).

  • Create your own curriculum from scratch (for a fully custom setup).

Pre-made options may include:

  • The standardized ECE framework already reviewed

  • Montessori

  • Region-specific provincial or state curriculums (depending on your location)

  • For example, users in Alberta can access and add the Alberta Flight Curriculum.

Step 6: Add the Selected Curriculum

  1. Click on the curriculum you want to add.

  2. Click Submit to confirm your selection.

The selected curriculum will now appear in your list of available curriculums. You can edit its domains, focus areas, and outcomes as needed, just like the preloaded curriculum.
